Artificial turf demand has exploded across Sacramento County and Placer County. With that growth has come an influx of unlicensed operators, subcontract-heavy franchise models, and importers pushing cheap turf with inflated warranties. Here's what to actually verify.
California law requires a C-27 Landscape Contractor license for artificial turf installation. This is non-negotiable. Check any installer's license number at cslb.ca.gov before your first conversation. An unlicensed contractor means no consumer protection, no recourse, and no insurance if something goes wrong on your property.
Total Turf's license number: #1125443. Look us up.
Many Sacramento turf companies — especially franchise operations — sell the job and hand it to a subcontracted crew you've never met. This creates accountability gaps when something goes wrong. Ask directly: who will physically be on my property doing the work? Get the answer in writing if it matters to you.
At Total Turf, every installation is performed by our own trained employees. No subcontractors, ever.
USA-made artificial grass is manufactured to higher standards, has consistent quality control, and performs better under Sacramento's UV exposure. Ask your installer specifically: where is your turf manufactured? If they can't answer precisely, that's telling.
A proper sub-base — excavated native soil, compacted Class II road base, decomposed granite — is the foundation of a long-lasting installation. Ask your installer to walk you through their sub-base process. If they're vague or dismissive, walk away.
Manufacturer warranties and installer workmanship warranties are different things. Make sure both are documented in your contract before you sign.
