We offer three turf tiers at Total Turf — budget at $15/sq ft, standard at $17/sq ft, and premium at $21–$23/sq ft. I want to tell you what actually changes as you move up, because the marketing language around "premium" turf can be vague.
A solid, reputable turf product with a 10-year warranty. Adequate face weight (the density of fibers per square yard). One or two blade shapes. Limited color variation. It looks good. It's not going to wow anyone up close, but from the street it reads as a well-maintained lawn.
For front yards where curb appeal is the goal and the primary viewer is someone driving past at 25 mph — budget tier is often totally fine.
More fiber per square yard, better backing, more color variation, shaped blades. It looks noticeably better up close. If you're going to spend time in your yard, entertain, or have kids and pets on the surface regularly, standard tier holds up better underfoot over time.
Premium products have significantly higher face weight, UV stabilization designed for 15+ years in Sacramento sun, and the most realistic multi-tone colorways available. If you're doing a putting green, a showcase front yard, or a large backyard where the turf is the centerpiece of your outdoor design — premium is worth the step up.
The performance gap between budget and premium is real. The question is whether the use case warrants it. We'll tell you honestly what tier your project actually needs. Free estimate — we'll show you all three in person.
