What Low Maintenance Actually Means

You won't mow, water, fertilize, aerate, overseed, or deal with brown patches. That's genuinely eliminated. But a few simple practices keep your turf looking its best for 15+ years — and Sacramento's climate makes some of these more relevant than others.

Sacramento's Seasonal Maintenance Calendar

Spring (March–May)

After winter rains, debris accumulates. A thorough rinse and light brushing to lift matted fibers sets you up for summer. Top up any infill that washed out in heavy rain areas.

Summer (June–September)

On days above 100°F, a quick hose rinse cools the surface immediately. Pets: rinse weekly to keep the surface fresh. Brush high-traffic areas monthly to keep blades upright.

Fall (October–November)

A leaf blower handles fallen leaves in minutes. Leaves sitting on turf for extended periods can stain — quick cleanups prevent this. Good time for a deep pre-winter rinse.

Winter (December–February)

Minimal maintenance needed. Turf handles Sacramento's winter rains exceptionally well — our drainage systems are engineered for it.

What to Avoid

Harsh chemical cleaners, metal-bristle brushes, and regularly parking vehicles on turf surfaces. These are the main ways homeowners inadvertently shorten turf lifespan.
