Fair Oaks is one of those Sacramento suburbs people who grew up here are fiercely proud of. The tree canopy along the American River corridor is genuinely beautiful. It also means we have to think carefully before installing turf in a lot of these yards.
Artificial turf and mature trees can coexist — we've done it in Fair Oaks and Gold River dozens of times. But you need to be thoughtful. Large oaks drop significant debris, and debris on turf means more maintenance than an open yard. If you have a valley oak with a 50-foot canopy, design around the drip zone rather than running turf underneath it.
Turf under lighter canopy trees — ornamental pears, Italian cypress — works well. The shade actually helps with heat on hot days.
Gold River has aesthetic standards and turf needs to look right in that context. We use product lines with a more natural appearance rather than bright artificial green. Gold River HOA has approved our installations there, and we know what their committee looks for.
Some Fair Oaks properties near the American River Parkway have modification restrictions. If you're in a flood zone or back up to the Parkway, flag that when you call — we'll check regulations before scoping.
